Experience the Oldest Merchant ship in the World! Enjoy this historic must visit - just brilliant!
The Oldest Merchant ship in the World!
The Edwin Fox Ship & Visitor Centre is a rare example of our long gone past. It has been a convict ship, an immigrant ship bringing early settlers to New Zealand and a trader. It may have even bought your early fore-bearers to New Zealand or Australia!!, and what stories it has to tell.
Edwin Fox Ship & Visitor Centre in Picton is a must do!
It is very highly rated and offers an ideal all weather activity and it is particularly family friendly. Try lying on a straw bed, as the early travellers did. See the interactive displays and amaze yourself at the hardships the early seafarers were subjected to. This is a classic part of New Zealand maritime history right in the heart of Picton.

Whilst small, this museum provided an interesting display of items from the Edwin Fox as well as fascinating narrative storyboards about its life. There is a documentary you can watch which I highly recommend not to mention the chance to walk onboard the boat. Well done to all involved.
Thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Edwin Fox. The small museum is well laid out and very informative. The 40-ish minute film is interesting and great watching, however I think it should be in a separate room to the exhibits as it can be distracting. Having the opportunity to walk on the actual ship at the end is fantastic and unique. Worth the $10 entry fee to experience and learn about an amazing piece of history.
Spent an hour or so looking through. Very enjoyable, great history
An amazing and well presented display of incredible history, packed with story and visual interest. Lot's to see and take in. Highly recommend taking a look.

Not just a ship to see!
I first hesitate to go as I was thinking that the price was a bit expensive to just see a ship...but then I am so happy we went! There is a all little museum of explanation on the technology used to build this ship, different themes board describing what the ship was used for, a video of the last trip of the ship. All very well done and you can feel that this place was organized by passionated peoples! The final part of the exhibition is to go ON the ship! Discover the way the travellers and crew lived in, walk and touch the original hull which is super impressive, 2 levels open to the public. Such a great experience which largely worths the price of the ticket!
